What do we do?
Assist artists by providing them with a structure of highly involved peers, each one contributing his or her particular skill set for the benefit of the group. Artists will work as a unit to develop both individual and group skills in area such as:
Curation: Working directly and collaboratively from its stable of artist/curators, AI will curate group shows tailored to showcase our artist’s work as well as to fit the tastes of the gallery/fair/venue that will house the show.
Gallery Placement: Working as advocates for each other’s work, AI will function as a large network, pitching primarily pre-curated group shows but also individual artists to the galleries.
Alternative Placement: The areas outside of the gallery system represent an important and fertile space for exhibiting. AI will not ignore the potential of this space, and will pitch its group shows to corporate buildings, government buildings, condominium associations, and so forth.
Business Practice for Artists: AI aims to develop grant writing skills, both individually and as a group, by having them peer reviewed prior to submission. AI will also assist its members in applying for residency placements through the same process of peer review.
Community Interaction: Using both social media networks and personal networks, AI will initiate and maintain an ongoing commentary on its exhibitions and artists in an attempt to kickstart an ongoing dialog with the art community, both in NY and further afield.
